Advancement of battery could make battery flow cheaper and easier to build.
In future we expected that the large source of energy comes from renewable sources such as wind and solar. As we all know that there are times when wind does not blow and sun doesn’t shine. At this situation we balance supply, so we need to store surplus electricity which generated by renewable.
Lastly researchers reported that the advancement of one potentially cheap and energy packing battery. But the reason are it requires toxic and caustic materials. Due to the noxious material uses the same team has received it’s chemistry and working on to not used noxious material. The advancement of the cheapest battery can make bright future.
As we know that in electric car and mobility device need power , we need huge number of batteries. Even in best battery have these issues. For example – when lithium ion cells used then they use lithium as a key points. The other problem come with lithium battery are they are to expensive and also have limited storage capacity. It also loose it performance when it repeated charging.
How does it work?Â
When we want to improve the battery, firstly we need to understand how it works. In lithium ion batteries having three key component. In this two solid component are there which know as electrode – the anode and cathode and also having liquid which act as electrolyte. When the battery get discharge the electrons move from anode to cathode to power the device which is connected to it. The positive lithium ion diffused with electrolyte, which can be attracted to the negative charges of cathode. When the battery get charged up it goes reverse.
Discuss the energy density
The process of the electrochemical reaction are reversible. Its have many different kinds of chemicals and ion involved. According to the ASTRABAT projects work away with liquid electrolyte and make solid or gel. According to this theory the solid state batteries have higher energy density, it means that they provide power to the device for longer duration. These batteries are safest for use and easy to manufactured. As unlike lithium ion battery do not have used flammable liquid electrolyte.
The researchers Dr. Sophie Mailley said that “we need to invest in research to improve the next generation of batteries”.
Who is Dr. Sophie Mailley?
Dr. Sophie Mailley is Electrochemist at the Atomic Energy and Alternative Energies Commission in Grenoble, France which is coordinator of ASTRABAT project. Dr. Sophie Mailley had explain that the lithium based solid state battery has already exit. But in this battery uses gel as a electrolyte and only work at temperature of about 60C. They are not used for many appliances. She and her team working on the this project to make better solid state lithium battery. Dr. Sophie said that there are not suitable component and working on this to manufacturing of the batteries. There team member plan to make easier to recycle lithium and other elements from solid state battery as compare to typical lithium ion battery.
Dr. Sophie told that if the research goes well , then the solid state lithium can used as commercial use in electric car by 2030. There are many component which can used as manganese or sodium.
When the purpose of storing energy for purpose of supply smoothing electricity. These batteries need to be reliable and high capacity. This type of battery is more expensive. Lithium isn’t best choice. The other projects which are HIGREEW project work in the different kind of battery , that is known as redox flow cell. In this two liquid are main component that is one positive charge and one negative charge. In this project the aims to develop this new battery is they used less toxic materials.
