A new technology which develop a new kind of battery, much research occur to form different kind of battery which is made up of Abdument and inexpensive material. These new battery are low cost and use renewable sources of energy.
In all over the world there large installation of wind and solar system. Requirements increased fast for economical, also for large backup storage of energy which provides power while sunset or according to the requirements. For most of the uses the lithium-ion battery is still to expensive. Also to the other purpose of use like pumped hydro which required specific topography which is not easily available.
Now, many scientists from other countries and MIT develop a new kind of battery which is made abduntally and inexpensive which resolve these problems.
Structures of new kinds of battery, which form by aluminum and sulfur as its two electrodes material; in between this there is molten salt. from MIT professor Donald shadowy released a notice and other countries like Canada, China, Kentucky, and Tennessee that ‘ i want something new to invent which is much better then lithium-ion batteries which have small scale storage capacity and increased its uses. Lithium-ion battery not good for only being expensive, it also have flammable electrolyte which is not good for transportation. So that the shadowy started study on different elements which is cheap and earth element material used as substitute of lithium. After the study, they found aluminum which is most earth abutment material. While doing experiment they find that the battery cell could cover hundred of cycles. As compared to lithium ion the cost of this cell have one-sixth of the lithium ion cell. Totally the charging rate is depending on the working temperature which is 110 degrees Celsius.
In new battery, they used molten salt which have low melting points. Its have biggest disadvantage, it make dendrite which is narrow spikes of metal. It is attached to the one end of the electrolyte and when it grow contact to another end they cause short circuit. Third element which is chloro- aluminate salt . It run across the dendrite, according to the experiment these elements have a high charging rate. All these experiments focus on to find the salt which have low melting point.
However, shadowy says that the battery do not require any external heat source for maintaining the operating temperature. Heat naturally produce by electrochemical reaction while recharging and discharge the battery. Sadoway said when u charge the battery it produces heat and keeps the salt from freezing and when it discharges it automatically produces heat. For example, in the sunshine store the energy, and in sunset u used this stored energy in dark every day. Now focused on the size of installation according to there need. For small houses and small to medium businesses few tens of kilowatts per hour of storage capacity. For larger insta utility scale of ten to hunderd megawatts per hours. The smaller scale of the battery can be used in practical life in such as electric vehicle charging. Everyone wants rapidly charging of the battery because when electric vehicles become common on road they need charge up once . According to the sadoway the battery system having quick storage power and have quickly released according to the requirements. Many scientists take the initiative to develop this quick fast charging and less expensive and large battery storage capacity, these teams have members from China, MIT, Peking university, Yunnan university, and the Wuhan university of technology in Canada – Oak Ridge National Laboratory. These companies come to support MIT energy.
